Unit 4 Reading Response

In this chapter it’s all about design home page and how it’s navigation works. Home page must require site identity and mission, site hierarchy, search, teases, timely content, deals, shortcuts, and finally registrations. Home page is supposed to make us feel what we are looking for or not as well as were to begin and decide whether we should establish it or trust it. Most homepages can really confuse us when we are trying to navigate which is why they have taglines, it’s some type of a small message that defines what the homepage is all about. Navigations come in many ways whether its horizontal or vertical as long as it’s understandable especially pulldowns, sometime it helps but navigation is pretty long. I feel like this is the most common situation I’ve been almost every day whenever I use my computer. I always go to many different home pages and there’s always a lot of navigations to go through, sometime it’s easy and simple while others are extremely long and annoying. Some homepages such as Amazon, Google, and Facebook are one of the best home pages there is, I have no problem going through the navigations for each home pages.

Unit 3 Reading Response

Street signs is about navigating from words and signage. Like in store there’s a lot of signs that helps people lead to the products they are seeking and in websites people type one word and the site immediately leads them to whatever they are looking for. Bread crumbs is something getting close to the desired destination by following step by step. Its best the bread crumbs are located at the top where most navigations are located. The problem with both the signage and bread crumbs they often lead to frustration because the navigation can be misleading and force the users to ask for assistance in person. I’ve been through a lot of situations where I follow sign that I thought it would lead me to where I need to go but turns out it’s not the right one I’m looking for and I was forced to ask for help. Same for the website, when I click on word or type the word it always leads me to some navigation whether its right or wrong. The signage may work out for some people but for people who are more specific should really change the signage to the it can satisfy the users.

The type used in this site is mixed with Times new roman and sans serifs. The navigation was a little hard but it works almost like a puzzle game, pretty much just click on the right lever and it leads to the next step. The layout is almost something out of a cirque du soleil and the parallax seems to be in well order. The images presented is easy to see, large and clear to understand.

Type appears to be curves, and bolded because this website shows something natural and happy-like. The navigation is almost random because almost everywhere theres more navigations that leads to another and everything is all scroll down for each navigation. The layout seems to be in order but there's too much to see and the parallax is okay due to being set up in order of where the users need to navigate. The images may be clear but appears to be a little small.

Type used is mostly sans serif and times new roman. The navigation is all scroll down while the layout and parallax seem to be well organized. The images however appear to be small because even though the projects are web design they should be more bigger so the users can see clearly.

Unit 2 Reading Response

CHAPTER 3 Billboard Design 101

This is about creating pages with very clear visual hierarchy and following the three important traits such have more prominent, related logically and visually nested. Pretty much it’s a very big page you see on the front page of newspapers and magazines or driving in the highway and see those big billboards. This is the best way of taking advantages for readers who prefer to just scan through the pages for the big pictures and immediately click them, also many prefer to spend less time reading the details. From what I think and feel about this, I strongly agree with this because I’m the type of person who really don’t like reading the big details but rather scan through and get the idea, I do in fact read the detail only if its small and easy to understand.

CHAPTER 4 Animal, Vegetable, or mineral?

In this chapter it about users clicking mindlessly however there are some certain rules that the users must go through such as updates, and languages. This is about letting the users make the choice for themselves even though there are no decisions to be made or they are just doing random clicks for absolute no reasons. I feel they should make the pages much easier for users to get less frustrated because I’ve been through a lot of web pages that requires certain rules which is really bothersome. I understand the security reasons but if it’s for advertisement or distractions then I feel there should be some changes that needs to be done.

CHAPTER 5 Omit needless Words

This chapter is about needless words on pages. Almost every webpage has lots of paragraph and sentences that are completely useless for users, it’s very common for the introductions of the webpages. I have to agree with this because I really can’t stand the annoying long words that means nothing to me. I understand it’s an introduction about what it’s about or what they do but I doubt it’s necessary when most of us already get the idea of what the webpage’s purpose is.

Type is close to times roman and navigation is a long scroll down. Layout is all color and images while parallax seems very well organized. Images are small yet clear to be seen.

The type appears to be sketched rather than typed except for the navigation details which used something close to Calibri font. Its navigation is almost the same like the others, all are at the top right corner but this is a little hard to see the navigation when they blend in within the background. The layout shows black and white colors with photos and sketch art. The parallax is shows project in different order and rows the images shows to be large and clear enough.

The type is close to Arial rounded and navigation is scrolling up and down. The layout is each pages shows the projects and animations while the parallax seems very well organized. The images use is very large and clear to be seen.
